Alecia Hudson

My name is Alecia Hudson and I am currently a full time student at St. Edward’s University. I am studying for a EC-6 generalist Education degree. My previous academic experiences include 2 years at Austin Community College where I worked on my core classes before transferring to St. Edwards. I pride myslef on my education and currently hold a 4.0 GPA. I am a member of both Phi Theta Kappa and Alpha Chi National Honor Societies.

My lifelong passions for teaching and nature have merged over the last few years as I have sought out and gained experience in informal science environments. Such experiences include working over the last four summers for LCRA at the McKinney Roughs Nature Park as a camp counselor during their Summer Nature Camp for elementary aged students. This experience has given me a great opportunity to hone my teaching experiences and gain valuable naturalist information. I also worked at the same place as a Naturalist educator for several off-seasons. My experiences there then led me to my current job as an environmental science educator for the non-profit Keep Austin Beautiful. I currently manage three after school classes at two middle schools and one high school. This experience has allowed me to not only work with older students on more in depth topics, but also to grow my curriculum development skills as I have been actively writing a native plant curriculum for middle and high schools students.

My hope for the future include finishing my degree and eventually working as an educator in an informal setting with an emphasis on outdoor education. I am a firm believer in Experiential learning with a constructivist approach. I hope one day to work in a setting where my students discover personal experiences while constructing knowledge about their natural world.

Outside of school and work, I follow artistic passions through sewing, crocheting, and face painting for birthday parties and events. Check out my work at my site, Doodle Arts by Alecia
When I am not feeling artistic you can find me playing with my pet Gopher Snake, Phoebe, or cooking up something sweet to eat.
