I understand that not all students are going to respond the same to management techniques that I tend to use. However, I will make it a goal of mine to address the needs of all students, in order to allow an effective and productive environment to take place in my classroom. Acknowledging individuals who are behaving properly and are following all the rules set in class is important. Many times these individuals go unnoticed and are not rewarded for playing by the rules at all times. Personally recognizing them at the end of class on the way out will reinforce to them that their participation and behavior was being noticed. All some students need is a small token of recognition to keep them striving in the correct direction.
Not all students are going to behave in the manner that I want them to, I would be ignorant to believe that classroom behavior would be good at all times throughout my semester with students. Students who are misbehaving and not following rules are sometimes doing it to attract and receive attention which they are not getting from other sources. Knowing this, and looking past their misbehavior is important as a physical education teacher. Patience is definitely a huge trait that an educator needs to have when dealing with behavior issues. Redirecting that students energy and behavior towards a positive outcome can be beneficial to both teacher and students. By finding something that the student does well, acknowledging that trait, and incorporating it into the activity being done, can help students become engaged in classroom activities and redirect their behavior into a positive direction. Students want some sort of recognition for their participation in class, being aware of that and highlighting it is key.
