Did you change your spring break plans because of the virus? From what to what?
Yes, I was planning on traveling with my mom over Spring Break but we decided that would not be the best decision. I ended up just staying at home with my parents.
How did you feel when you were informed the remainder of the semester would be held online?
I was really sad but I understood why the school had to shut down. I wish we could have been warned sooner so I could say goodbye to my teachers and friends in person.
Where will you be living while courses are held online? Is this a change from usual?
I used to live on campus but with the school shutting down for the rest of the semester we had to all be moved out. I am back living with my parents in Boerne, Texas.
What has been your experience with moving classes online? What’s good? What’s not so good?
My history classes are mainly discussion based, so it is a little difficult to have good conversations on Zoom. Teachers that have lectures have not been as difficult to manage, however it has been an adjustment getting used to Zoom and online classes.
How has the virus (and the precautions taken to prevent it spreading) impacted your daily life?
The stay at home orders have not really impacted me too much.
How worried are you about getting the virus?
I am worried, I have asthma and since the the virus is respiratory based I can easily catch it. Most of my family is immunocompromised so even if I do not present symptoms I am afraid to catch it and become a carrier for it.
Do you know anyone who has gotten COVID-19?
Yes, my cousin’s husband got COVID-19, but they are living in Spain.
Are you staying in? What are you doing to pass the time?
I am staying in, I have a lot of school work to do so that helps pass the time for now. I am also working on applying for jobs for the summer and fall, as well as graduate school. Me and my mom love watching movies together so when I have free time thats what we do.
Are you going out? Where do you go and what is it like?
I was going out to a few places at the very beginning, some places were almost empty while others like grocery stores were packed with people.
What is giving you hope and/or strength right now?
Me and friends are continuing to communicate with each other and we try to FaceTime a lot so we can see each others faces out side of our classes together. We are also trying to make plans for the summer which helps us look forward and not focus too much on the issues with the virus.
Is there anything else you’d like to tell us about what you’re feeling or experiencing right now?
A lot of what I experienced at the beginning was mostly disbelief. I am so disappointed that me and my friends who are graduating this semester will not get to have our graduation in May and we had to say goodbye to out school and each other so quickly.
