Laguna de Apoyo

Nicaragua has many natural beauties to offer to both natives and tourists. On my personal experience as Nicaragua, one of the most beautiful places that the country has to offer a lagoon called “Laguna de Apoyo”.

“Laguna de Apoyo” is about 40 minutes away from the capital. The lagoon is located on the crater of a volcano that erupted over 600 years ago. To get to the lagoon, you have to descend on that crater, immersing yourself in an amazing trip of green vegetation and rare fauna species. Your nose starts to capture the smell of ecology and pureness; the smell of a city-free zone.

Once you go all the way down to the bottom of the crater, there is this little rustic place called “Monkey Hut”, an oasis in the middle of the dirt road. Monkey Hut is a big, two stories house made only of wood. In the lower level, there is a road that leads you through some cabins and picnic tables. This road ends in a small port where you ca jump to the lagoon.

In “Monkey Hut”, the environment you breathe is different. Time goes by slower, as if the rhythm of life changes and you take in every moment a little bit more. People areextremely friendly and always try to help you. A feeling of community makes you feel like a member of the Monkey Hut “family” instead only a client. For 7 dollars you can stay there the whole day swimming in the warm water lagoon; eating their wood fire pizza, or reading your favorite book in the hammocks. You can also grab the main house’s guitar or bongos and play by yourself, friends, or other members of the community. If you want to stya a little bit longer you can go rent a nice little cabin for 48 dollars per night or a dorm for just 10 dollars! The experience is worth way more than any option you choose

Apoyo Lagoon is one of the most beautiful, peaceful places of the country. Is a place where you can go with your family or by yourself and you would still have an amazing time. It is an excellent way to retreat from the urban life we are so used to live and get back in touch with ourselves and the nature that surround us.

I am from Nicaragua, or to refer to it by its poetic title, I am from “The Land of Lakes and Volcanoes”. Nicaragua is a small country located in the heart of the Americas. It extends between Honduras and Costa Rica, right in the center of Central America. Nicaragua is a country fill with explosions of natural beauty,

Being only two and a half hour away from Houston, Tx, Nicaragua’s location is convenient to many American tourists that want to experience a different kind of environment.

As soon as you land in Nicaragua, your eyes are struck by the many folkloric artefacts and decoration that surrounds not only the capital but every other city of the country. Your heart is also warmed by the hospitality and friendship of the Nicaraguan that together with their sense of humbleness and innocence gives the tourist an emotive and sincere welcome to the lands. Moreover, money is not really a big issue when you travel in Nicaragua. Although the plane ticket can get expensive depending on the season, once you arrive to the country your economy budget will grow because things are SO MUCH CHEAPER. A nice hotel in Managua, the capital, does not exceed from 60 or 70 dollars per night; a good meal can cost you around seven dollars, and a bottle of fine rum no more than ten dollars.

In my opinion, the best part of the country (and the cheapest one), is when you venture out of the capital. Managua is the metropolitan capital, yes, but, you dont go to Nicaragua to see buildings. The best part of the country is when you sand-board down a black sediment volcano, when you go surfing in a clear water beach with white sand, when you fall in love with the memory of a night filled with people, music, drinks, and an irreplaceable natural beauty
