We are in something of a paradigm shift for both our social lives and our lifestyles. With the semester ending earlier than expected and the majority of us displaced due to current events, it’s even harder to keep in long-term contact with our friends/significant others/family. That said, keeping yourself healthy physically is one hurdle; keeping yourself healthy mentally and emotionally is a completely different dog and pony show, and it’s just as important. So, we’ve decided to create a list of platforms you can use to keep in contact with your friends on the internet and where to find them, because that’s just one step of making sure you’re doing okay in difficult times.
- Skype
Arguably the most basic of the list today, Skype is a call platform where you can do video chats with your friends. There’s not much to say, aside from being built into Windows 10’s suite and being able to be downloaded from the Microsoft store.
- Discord
A far more complicated program than Skype, Discord has all the features of Skype plus the ability to do written chat in both public and private servers. Additionally, there’s the ability to create categories so you can regulate the conversation, not to mention stream and share your screen with your friends!
- Zoom
You may be using this app already for your classes online, which makes it perfect for when the textbooks have closed and you want to kick back and hang out with your friends! It’s potentially easier when you all just have a singular platform to perform all function on, and it can also work just as well as the others, so the choice is up to you.
