Take care of yourself

This time can be discouraging and worrisome for a lot of us, which is why it’s important to take extra care of ourselves. Washing our hands could be considered the most important thing to do and this only takes 20 seconds.

Social distancing is also important to prevent the risk of contaminating yourself and others. The last but not least important way to take care is staying at home, unless it’s absolutely necessary to leave, such as grocery shopping. The Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention shares more information on how to protect yourself on their website.

Meditating is another way to care for ourselves. This is a simple, free, and relaxing way to relieve stress (which we could all use right now). Roll out a yoga mat or just use the carpet in your house, light candles, and do some breathing exercises. Setting time aside to do this positively impacts a person and reduces stress.

Continue to exercise

All of the gyms may be closed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still exercise. We have a few suggestions.

First, there are more than enough bodyweight workout videos on YouTube. The good thing about these workouts is that they don’t require any gym equipment, so they are easy to do anywhere in the house.

Second, our previous blog post shares a few tips about working out at home. For example, if an exercise requires weights but you don’t have access to any, water bottles and laundry detergent jugs do the same job.

Third, there are many bloggers who write about fitness and exercise. Bloggers offer a variety of free workouts. There are many blogs that share exercises to work upper body, lower body, core and more. Check out the following blog sites for free workouts: Blogilates, Tone It Up, and Breaking Muscle.

Keep up with school

Transitioning to online classes can be hard for some students who work better in a classroom environment. It’s important to remember that classes aren’t canceled, even if it does feel like an early summer being away from campus.

Make sure to check your Canvas, Blackboard or any other program your school uses to keep up with assignments. Since there is a lot of free time, pick a day and dedicate it to writing down dates and deadlines. Write them in your planner, make a to-do-list, or put them in your phone so there is no way to forget about them.

Making a schedule and sticking to it is another way to keep up with school. Get into a routine and set a time slot aside for school work. If it helps, have fun with it and create your own work space. It is helpful to have a space to go to when you need to get serious and focus on your work away from distractions.

Stay busy, stay positive, and have fun

The days may feel long because you’re bored at home with nothing to do, so make sure to stay busy! Puzzles, word searches, card games, and virtual happy hours with friends are just a few ways to use your time.

It’s important to stay positive for yourself and those around you. This time is new and different for everyone, so try your best to have a positive outlook on life. Try starting each morning by reading a positive quote before getting out of bed.

Lastly, HAVE FUN! Quarantine can be boring, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Whether you’re with friends or back at home with family, make the most of your time. Try learning a new skill or have a cooking competition. On nice days, take a walk outside, but remember to social distance.

We’re all in this together and there are brighter days ahead, so do your best to make the most out of quarantine!
