If you are one to bury yourself in work to get your mind off the pandemic, then keep reading!
There are other ways to cope with stress, whether it be from school and assignments or from COVID-19 and all the broadcasts and news articles about it.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shares information about ways to cope with stress, specifically 4 ways.
Take Breaks From News Stories
COVID-19 is everywhere. It’s shown on TV, it’s written about in newspapers, it’s talked about on the radio, and it’s seen on almost every social media platform. Being exposed to so much negativity can cause stress and anxiety, which is why it’s important to remove yourself from it and take breaks.
Try turning off the TV, radio and logging off of social media for a day. Board games and card games are two fun ways to bond and get your mind off the negativity. Painting or drawing are fun and relaxing ways to lose track of time and just get lost in the process.
Whatever you find joy in, do it! It’s important to take breaks from new stories because they can be upsetting.
Take Care of Your Body
The CDC specifically says:
- Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate.
- Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals.
- Exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep.
- Avoid alcohol and drugs.
Make Time to Unwind
Stepping away from news stories, assignments, and anything else that causes you stress, is a good idea. Trying a new activity or starting a new hobby are both ways to unwind.
Puzzles don’t require too much thinking and they give you a feeling of achievement once you finish them!
Connect With Others
The CDC recommends sharing your concerns and feelings with people you trust. It is nice when you find common ground with someone because you no longer feel lonely or overwhelmed. The best thing to do is help each other and be hopeful and positive during times like these.
Your mental health is important! Take care of yourself and those around you. These 4 ways to cope with stress are reminders that there is hope. It’s important to stay positive and know that there are brighter days ahead.
