VISU Contemporary Artist

I’ve chosen contemporary artist Yoko Ono to write about because I find her interesting rather than inspiring.

Through Ono’s contemporary art, she explores humanity, conflict, and peace. Specifically in her exhibition “War Is Over! (if you want it)”, Ono expresses the lack of conflict and fulfillment of peace. Within her piece of “The Doors”, you can see that the doors are inviting to different possibilities and parallels of humanity. In “Play It By Trust”, Ono successfully created a game that renders combat infallible due to all of the chess pieces being white, in which if you were to play the game, you literally had to play with your partner by trust. Yoko Ono’s first art debut was actually unofficial at the Museum of Modern Art in 1971. She advertised her one-woman show to be at the Museum, but her work was that she had released flies into the Museum and visitors were to track them. Most of her work shares her vision to promote world peace. I find that she is interesting because she appears to be less conventional than other artists.
