Simone Biles

As most people know, Simone Arianne Biles is an American artistic gymnast who holds a total of 32 Olympic and World Championship medals. Biles is seen as the most decorated gymnast of all time due to all of her glory- but her life wasn’t always considered the most glamorous. Simone Biles entered the Foster Care System at the age of 4 years old due to her biological Mother’s substance use and the absence of her Father in her life. Simone remained in the system for 2 years until her Grandparents eventually adopted her. Although Simone was very young during her living in the Foster Care System, she has said that she still remembers it vividly- especially having little to no belongings. Since her fame, Simone has worked with a donation-driven organization that provides materials to foster youth and their families and has set up a scholarship fund to assist children with application and assessment fees.

Tiffany Hadish

Tiffany Hadish is a very famous actress in our present time who has worked in big comedic films like Girls Trip and Like A Boss. She also is known as an Author and a successful female Comedian which resulted in her being named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Times magazine in 2018. The Hollywood Reporter has also listed her among the 100 most powerful people in the entertainment industry in multiple years. Although before her fame kicked in, Tiffany did live in the Foster System. She entered foster care at the age of 12 when her mother was in a car accident and stated that she and all her siblings were separated during their stay in homes or group homes. Tiffany and her siblings were reunited when she was 15 after they were adopted by their grandparents.

Tiffany feels empathy and compassion for children in the system due to how she is currently going about her personal life. In June of 2021, Tiffany spoke out to the USA today stating, “I’m currently looking, deciding on adopting,” Haddish said. “First of all, especially after this pandemic, there are so many children left without their parents. There are a lot of people that need to be loved. It’s Foster Care Awareness Month right now, and I think we all should be aware and try to do what we can.”

Coco Chanel

Coco Chanel was a highly successful French Fashion designer who was the founder of the Chanel brand. She is universally known and sold due to her popularized, one-of-a-kind style.

What you might not know though, is that she learned how to sew in an all-girls orphanage, which led to her being in control and the rise of fame in her life. When leaving the orphanage she began to make a name for herself and essentially changed the woman’s fashion world we live in today.

National Women’s Day

At Austin Foster Fellowship, we want to advocate not only for a safe foster care venture for the children but a powerful future afterward. It is important to advocate for the children’s safety first but we want these young girls to know that there’s more to life than just being in the system. It is important to allow every girl to know that they are empowered and are stronger than this world and situational challenges might have made them feel. Although I did choose 3 worldwide known women to focus on in this paper- these are just 3 of many. I do not believe that to feel empowered, confident, or happy you have to be famous. But I do believe that a Foster Child can do anything, anyone else.  Here at AFF, during National Women’s Month, we want the power of believing and hope to take over.
