mid term assessment essay: Graphic Design 1

My use of practice time is always consistent. I am a terrible procrastinator at home so anytime I have a moment to work in class or at school I take full advantage of it. I think my work comes out pretty good since I like to use that time to get feed back from everyone as well.

The sophistication of my work is probably medium but, only because I like certain things that wouldn’t be considered “sophisticated”. I know that I should challenge myself to do more complex things, but I already find so much stuff boring so, I tend to cling to the few things that interest me. That stuff usually tend to be things that look cute and robots.

I do try to make my art stand out, and I try to make sure that it is good quality in the end, but I feel like the process along the way is just me trying to stay interested in what I’m doing.

Feedback is pretty useful in my opinion and I never get too defensive because I like when I can make my idea as close to perfect in my eye. Of course, I’ve been involved with art practically my whole life so I’ve already learned to deal with criticism (for the most part) and not to take it personally.

I don’t really know if I’m challenging myself or not. I feel like the biggest challenge I could put myself to would be to create things I don’t enjoy but, then what is the point? Of course I’ll probably be in this situation all the time when I actually start working for a company or something.

I’ve had some other expert experiences regarding graphic design that I made money from and I feel like they are cool but may be categorized under other “stuff”. For example, I made t-shirt designs for people and a couple of icons for small YouTubers.

I’ve also made logos for organizations in Austin (in middle school) and for the Kyle police department (in High school) via contests when I was younger, but the quality of art is terrible compared to now so, I won’t add that in this post.

Social and Emotional development is pretty mature though it can get pretty out of control. I tend to slack off at home so, I tried to stay at school as long as I can to get things done. I guess knowing what I will and won’t do has help me survive as long as I have. Other than that, I don’t really talk to people so, I don’t have that much social or emotional baggage.

My contribution to the climate of the classroom is pretty warm. I feel like I speak a good amount in class because I like how comfortable and relaxed the setting is which is new for me because I don’t particularly like speaking in class. I try to give good feed back and participate in the class.
