Artist Statement

In my art I use clothing design to express femininity. The materials and colors I choose play against each other: hard vs. soft, light vs. dark, opaque vs. sheer. The contradictions all lend themselves to expressing my own sense of female identity. I think there’s a large amount of duality in being a woman today, that there is an expectation for women to balance these opposing sides. I like to use these opposing ideas together to show off the woman’s figure, highlighting the areas that typically define a female body (hips, breasts, curves). The play of oppositions is something I’m drawn to in art. In my studio art classes I have been exploring new media and techniques, exploring new ways to create art in the context of class assignments. I hope to continue learning new media and involving it into my outside works.
