End Term Assessment

Sometimes I achieved my practice time until I got stress but most of the time I could kept going. I liked making the book so I kept playing with it with different pictures and I even made an extra book with different pictures, but I thought the cat book was funnier so I decided to use that for the class. When we were separated into groups to critique the books helped me out to see what could I do to make it better because after a while of working on the same pictures I don’t see whats wrong anymore, so a different point of view helps. I really liked the taking photographs part of the class, I wouldn’t print out more book because that was really stressful, but I have always enjoyed taking pictures. For some projects like the book and when I went to shoot pictures I did more than it was required, but to be honest I didn’t read some of the reading for the class 😀 It was a fun class and learned a lot of why many pictures are appealing for us with the gestalt theory.

Midterm Evaluation

The blog reflections were based on how I decided to take my photos based on the content of the class requirements. Taking picture and walking around South Congress for each set of photographs took me about 1-2 hours, but what took me more time was deciding what photos to use and edit them on the Fotor app. By looking at other people work and points of view made me want to look for more different things hidden on South Congress. Also the printing difference between the inkjet and the laser printer helped me to choose one or the other to help my photo. Gestalt theory helped me see the photography different, now I look for more things in a photography than just a picture. For some projects I had to make time for them like the collages, It took me a lot of time that I normally don’t put into homework, but because it was fun I enjoyed it. I tried to implement my peer and teachers feedback, but sometimes I didn’t understand everything they were saying. For taking the photographs at South Congress I took time to look around to see what I liked and tried to challenge myself to find different points of views that are hard to find. I got a lot of new things thanks to the class, I never had an art class before so I literally didn’t know anything about the subject.

Harmony in 2D

They have 2-3 different photographs on each collage. For Framing San Jose I used a background photo of the actual frames. I cut and pasted each frame and put it on top of the stairs to make it look that they are sitting on the steps. For Raining Music I cut and pasted the hearts from another photo to make it look like the dog is enjoying the music, The rain and the skeleton head was from another photographs. I decided to use those photographs together because they all have similar textures. I moved the PacMan ghost in Haunting Ghosts from one side to the other and patched the missing cement, ten I cut and pasted the gun and the flower from another photograph and for the dots I made circle out of the black background and inverted the colors.

Unexpected View

Escanear 5The use of the cactus and agaves around the window helps to breaks free from the frame. I used a lot of green and some hints of red to contrast. I used pins on the cactus to have texture and make it look more 3D because of the shadows that they produce. The sign in the middle of the window helps break the lines from the windows by creating new ones.

Green SoCo

Plants and nature are a form of art that is no man made. The way that the art is captured makes it easier to see things in another way. Playing with the point of view with the camera helps it seem more unique and special. Nature is the most important part of life, in other words nature is life. Nature has repetition (Cactusy), continuity (Agavy), symmetry (Leafy), similarity (Flowery),  good Gestalt (Agavies) and past experience (Palmy).

SoCo Gestalt

Gestalt psychology influenced my photography by using the containment on 24/8 as a natural frame. On San Jose’s Steps the image makes the eyes follow the path of the stairs going up as continuity. The Push photograph was made with an open wood door as a type of containment for the text, but it also has closure because the wood goes on through the photograph without having and end to it. Windows of Possibilities has containment because of the frame of the plants, the frame of the window and the window itself; it also has proximity with all the hedge. The Fumes Photograph has symmetry as well as similarity and continuity. Green Hedge has a lot of proximity  because of the tight hedge surrounding the text, the shapes under the words are continuity.
