What can I expect?
Year 1 (Spring, Summer, Fall)
- Spring semester take Biol 4346: Agricultural Microbiology and Developmental Entomology. This course will focus on the important literature and research skills necessary to complete your summer research project and you will receive Biology Elective credit.
- Participate in 6 weeks of summer research at SEU
- In addition to working on your own research project, we will attend weekly lab meetings with our collaborators at UT!
- You will receive a weekly stipend of $400
- Summer 2012 research dates: TBD (likely June 3-July 12)
- Visit the USDA-ARS in New Orleans, LA
- Visit labs and scientists working at the Agricultural Research Service
- Learn about research projects and career possibilities
- Have fun in New Orleans!
- Summer 2012 trip dates: TBD (likely July 14-20)
- Write a formal paper describing your research and results

- Present your research from Summer I at the Texas Academy of Science Annual Meeting (March)
- Participate in 8 weeks of summer research at UT or SEU
- You will receive a weekly stipend of $400
- Write a formal paper describing your research and results
- Present your research from Summer II at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS). This is the largest national professional conference for undergraduate students in the sciences! (November)
