The City of Austin’s new requirement is for businesses to recycle 50% of their waste, a 1:1 ratio of recycling to trash! We Hilltoppers need to do all that we can to decrease our input of recyclable materials into landfills. Check out the “What Can I Recycle” chart for information of what you should put in those blue or green bins.
There are many benefits of recycling, both for the environment and the economy. Recycling reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills, saves energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global climate change, and helps create new jobs in the recycling and manufacturing industries.
The City of Austin is committed to a Zero Waste goal to reduce the amount of trash sent to landfills by 90% by the year 2040, and us Hilltoppers need to do our part to make this goal a reality!
