Gold and Blue Makes it Green! New Student Orientation has Become More Sustainable With App and Digital Materials

New students are entering St. Edward’s University already having a sense of our community’s dedication to sustainability. Rather than printing this year’s orientation schedule, maps, local tourism information, etc., incoming students and parents have the information at their fingerprints without having to carry paper around. It’s available on an app called Guidebook that can be downloaded on Apple or Android devices for free. Once the app has been downloaded, students and parents simply type in “St. Edward’s University Orientation” into the search bar to download a digital copy of the orientation guide. We invite you to check it out and see what new students and parents are experiencing!

New Student Orientation has also significantly decreased printing with the now digital “St. Edward’s University Guide,” which when printed equates to approximately 65,000 sheets of paper. Student Life has helped the university move a step forward to preserving our environment by making this guide available online and saving nearly eight trees worth of paper! Director of Orientation and Student Transitions, Marisa Lacey, and Marketing Services Manager, Lauren Green, came up with this more sustainable alternative while providing the same amount of useful information. The instructions on how to access download the guide online will be available on a half-page.
