All Media Work Us Over Completely by Marshall McLahun was very intriguing and interesting to the eye. I really enjoyed how abstract some of this art was. The way he described the way a child learns the alphabet and how he related it to technology. I enjoyed how he related the way that life is today to how it used to be. I enjoyed the comparison between education, politics, home life and all the things that we are surrounded by everyday. He makes it almost seem as if the education we have today is just conditioning and that we only learn what we are supposed to. I love the photographs and the art that was included with all of the writing. I feel like they fit along side it very well and that it is very beautiful work. When he says”art or the great translation of culture” I was not really sure what he was talking about but after talking to a a few friends about it, I decided that in saying this he not only means that art is a way to express culture but he also is trying to say that art changes over time depending on what is going on in the world. Artists try and use it as a way to tell a story and the conditions of what the artist is surrounded by reflect in his art.
Relating the artwork included in this article to harmony was a little bit more difficult for me. He definitely used a lot of design elements and did a good job assembling the pieces with his writing but i felt like the pieces themselves left me wondering. I feel like this whole thing left me wondering. There were so many points made in this article that I felt were almost open ended questions that never fully were answered. The way he described different things left me wondering about my life and how people have different morals and how culture has changed so much over the years. The way we are consumed by media and the things around us that we make into something bigger than it is. the way we talk about social media, television, technology, “news” of today, has little importance but we treat it as if it is the most important part of our lives. It is interesting to reflect on this and think about what is important to me and after reading this article I really see that I am being consumed just like everyone else and letting things build importance in my life that really should have none.
