img_0079 img_4659 With this information that I received I learned that due to the funding that supports our education system kids may struggle to grasp information due to lack of support such as teachers aids. Also if a school doesn’t have enough funds for something such as software to teach kids something then they won’t get that software. If the school would be able to have the funds to buy what they please then the kids would benefit from what the school wants to teach. Because I now know a little more about how the school funding system works I wonder if or even how much could a child flourish given the right amount of attention. If the child was given enough support then could that possibly spark some type of different knowledge into him/her. How many kids have the potential but don’t have the right support. Who knows what could happen, we just need changes to the funding.Because I created my own questions I was very eager to get the results. The education system is a very important tool in our careers as people and if we can further understand the system then we can begin to come up with solutions.

Assignment 4:Step B

With new insight on how the education system decides to distribute the funds and also how people are affected by this wicked problem, I know have a better idea of how to deal and also how the system functions. Due to the lack of funding, school districts have to make decisions that will save them money in the end. Although they may not want to take the cheap route, its a decision that they have their hands tied up in. Kids are now limited to the amount of educational support such as teachers aids or teachers in general. Money is tight in the school district which means that there have to be less employees (teachers/staff) and the ones who are employed have a too many students in class which can smother them and also have an effect on the way that they learn. This wicked problem needs to be further looked at by more people so that we can aid these schools in need. This facilities are supposed to be a tool and help educate the population of the future. How can we live our lives knowing that there are problems within our “trusted” school district? I wonder what cuts could be made in certain school districts that would benefit the kids more than their wallets.

Tech World

img_4565 img_4566 img_4569 img_4572 img_4573 img_4568Here we can see Keller waking up from his sleep just about to start the day with a cellphone in his hand. From this moment forward we will see how Keller interacts with technology and how much the technology devours him.

He then goes on and looks at his laptop to see what else has changed in the technological world. After doing so, he then makes his way to eat lunch with his friends. As he eats his lunch we can see his phone at hand.

After lunch he begins to play computer games for quite some time. Immediately afterwards he heads toward Torchys to eat, with once again a phone at hand. As he goes to bed he checks one last time what the world has to offer.

2. When pondering what theme to capture I simply took a look around and saw how technology takes so much of our attention. I was eating lunch and saw my roommate on his phone and started looking around and saw how many people were consumed by their digital devices. Instead of people having this face to face connection they blank their relationships through digital media.

3. Yes and no. When looking at the images once more I can see that they look generic. It looks like anyone could take these pictures and convey the same message. I would take the pictures without the consent of the people in the photo.

Dr. Kennedy’s Reflection

Dr. Kennedy talked about how there is not always truth in a photograph. Can we always trust a picture just because of what we see? We must keep in mind that a photograph is merely one frame of single event. The photo doesn’t always convey the correct message. Also Dr. Kennedy talked bout the process he uses when making a photograph. First he decides what type of content to photograph whether it be trees, water, or even people; then he takes the image and puts it into adobe photoshop. Once the photo is in photoshop Dr. Kennedy then directs the picture digitally. A photo is made up of binary code consisting of zeros and ones. He takes away from the picture like a digital onion. When he feels that the picture reveals its digital presence he leaves it as is. This is more of Dr. Kennedy’s recent work and he started recently titling his work to give the viewer a more sense of direction in terms of interpreting the image. With his work we can relate and discuss the meaning he was feeling and how he sees certain parts of the world. With this we can see diverse points of view of the world and its problems and collaborate with other people to solve these wicked problems.

Week

img_4543We decided to look at children funding for school and how their personal finance has an impact on their academics. By this map, its illustrates how the system runs and how the flow of chain goes. The process of this system heavily relies on each other and without one of the pieces missing the system could not function. The reason we chose to do children funding is because their years from birth to pre-k strongly affect their academic success. Also with the proper funding their academic success could greatly increase, but not every child has this advantage. We want to analyze and try and solve this problem so that all kids have the same chance of achieving academic success.

Week 4 reflection

Well from what I have gathered so for from my photography class is that there isn’t always truth behind a picture. From what we can gather from a single moment that a picture has taken isn’t always what is going on. There is more to the picture than just what you see, which makes it a wicked problem. Together I will be able to document what is going on in Austin by taking pictures that will represent the wicked problem. A picture is worth a thousand words meaning there is a significant amount of power that a picture can do. With the correct guidance and vision I can carefully capture images that will be accurate and reliable.

Austin CAN Presentation on Sept 12

I particularly liked Mr. Alvarez because of his background. He is Hispanic man who was seeking a college level education. To me that was very relatable and I connected with him personally. Also throughout his talk, he gave statistical evidence to support his claim and the evidence that was provided by him was astonishing. There are wicked problems in Austin that I never even thought about. Given his perspective on these wicked problems has opened my eyes to these complications in Austin. I liked his talk very much in that he made it relatively interesting while presenting his evidence and also had a very strong argument.
