December 5th, 2016

We finally finished our presentation and I can officially say that we have learned a lot of information about our wicked problem. We also learned how much one problem can relate to our wicked problem. We connected the problem of poverty to food security to transportation to crime and it was a domino effect that led health care to be a bigger problem. I found out that we need to be more informed about the health care problem in our society. Especially with the elections that happened, which might have an impact in our health care status. I also concluded that people need to be active about the problems in our society and especially about health care. Humans need to understand that we all need to be a part of health care decisions that are made for us. We need to figure out how to help people that aren’t educated enough about the health care problem. With the presentation, I learned about other wicked problems in Austin. If this problem is big in Austin they are big all around the country. I learned random facts that i had no clue that existed. I understand that is way beyond my reach to change policies, but if we all start to put an effort we can change things.

WiP Project Assignment 3: Step B – Blog/Reflection

interview for Health Care

Finding someone to interview was the hardest rejection I had ever had. I emailed plenty of people that interconnected with health care. But most of them didn’t even respond saying no. I called two and one of them told me that they would get back to me, but of course, they never did. After looking  at some health care places I came across Austin Adult Day Health Center, and I called to see if they could answer and they gave me the time and effort. I started to introduce myself and she was a registered nurse that was working in the health center for adults. She introduced herself, Joline, and I continued the interview. I learned that it is a big impact on adults since her perspective was about more adults ending up in the ER because they can’t afford health care. She said that income was a big effect on the elders. And since they are more fragile going to hospitals is a big thing. Since she focuses on elders she gave me the perspective on it. She did say that health care has been a huge problem since a long time ago. The interview gave a perspective of how elders have it way harder to maintain health care and how it is difficult to manage every elder to receive health care.

Photographys of a Story

b2For this particular picturezb1b6, I focused on a student at St.Edwards. She is one of my closest friends, and throughout the pictures, she wasn’t aware of her being photographed. In the center of the picture is the one picture of her actually knowing she was being taken a picture. I decided to be picture her life. The part that I was focused on was the part she only let me see. I didn’t take a picture ofb3 b5her brushing her teeth or sleeping. The only part she let me see was her studying or her doing exercise. This connects to what we can see of someones’ life. We only see the part that everyone let us see. Her focus is her own self, and she only focuses on the things she needs to get done. Her life revolves around herself, and that is humans default setting. Photographing her life story only shows half of it not the whole story.

Making Photographs, Part II: Thematic

Two Pictures in One.
Two Pictures in One.

On October 10th at 8:40pm, I took the picture that is located in the center of the picture I took on October 11th at 11:28am. My theme for this two pictures was the view in front of my dorm. In this particular setting, caught my attention because it is so common for me to pass by and not notice what exactly is in front of me. The picture that is placed in the center was taken the night before the second picture was taken. I took them from different locations and the difference was about five steps away. With those five steps, a whole new picture was made. The building was placed in a different place in both pictures. The windows aren’t lined up, and the point that of this is that is a big difference because people see the same image, but it is from a different perspective. The main concept is in the picture, but the details are always different for everyone. The lightning of the daytime gives a whole different sense of how we focus on something. The lighting of the picture taken at 11:28am grabs so much attention all around, but the top peak of the building is brighter at night once we notice it. We don’t place attention to the surroundings in the dark.

Photography with Dr. Kennedy

Since I have Dr.Kennedy as my professor I have learned so much from him on photographs. In his presentation, he explains how photography is a wicked problem itself. He explains that people take photographs in very different perspectives that can cause a different emotion. Since people take different opinions of what they interpret can cause chaos. I was really impressed with his artwork of the photographs he is working on. He gives the sense of everyone seeing their own perspective and not knowing what it actually means. Dr.Kennedy gave us history about the first photograph, and I can say that i learned a lot from just his one presentation. I know I will be able to learn so much more from such a great artist.

Health Care Visual Representation

The Diagram for visual presentation.
The Diagram for visual presentation.

In this visual, I created the diagram to show the connections between the main concept of health care to the parts and the people that relate to it. In the diagram shows that some boxes where parts repeat themselves. This shows how the parts all share everything  between the people and other sections. Money is one of the big factors that affect a lot of the parts of the health care system. The government box is also a big part of the health care system, and changes can affect with population can afford health care.

Week Four Reflection

After talking about my wicked problem, and analyzing how the problem is affecting the community I can relate my photography class in many ways. Photographs have been created in the past centuries, and humans have been learning from the past photographs. It has taught us to learn how we have been evolving throughout the years. We have recorded pictures black and white from the Wold Wars, and to even go back further we have sketches from ancestors in caves. These photographs have taught us how to learn from our mistakes and how to make differences. Being able to understand this from our photographs is going to help me understand the big perspective. I also can point the small things that affect the wicked problem that we have to analyze. The photographs only show a part of the story that they want to represent, but they can also make a small point to a big point. Photographs will make me see it a different perspective.

Austin CAN Presentation on Sept. 12

After attending the presentation about Mr.Alvarez I was surprised on the information that was given to us. I didn’t realize that the statistics for a lot of problems in the Austin society were so high. There was an increase in the homelessness problem with the last five years. What I also found interesting from the presentation was that a lot of programs were coming together to make a difference in the Austin area. This shows how they are humans trying to make a difference in our society, and there’s not going to be a big difference from day to day but little changes will happen. The information that was given to us by Mr.Alvarez has made me seen that there is a lot of problems that are major around us. This only makes me believe how there are much more problems for humans all around the country. The information that was given to us correlates how our generations are a big part of the future and how we can make a change if we try. Giving out information is one big step we have to take.
