Keys to Putting on a Public Relations Event
When working in public relations, every so often one of your clients will need you to put on an event. Whether this event is a breakfast for a press conference, the unveiling of a new product or just an event for community engagement each is equally important to that companies image. As an intern you may be asked to pull together a lot of these events.
When doing this remember:
- stay as professional as possible and
- never let them see you sweat.
- Do your research on any companies you may be renting things like projection equipment from to make sure they have good reviews and to keep yourself from looking bad on the job.
- Another good idea is to always show up early to test things out
- Always bring along an “event box” with general supplies like velcro, tape, sharpies and any other relevant supplies.
Knowing some of these tips at the beginning of my internship would have saved me a lot of trouble and embarrassment. It is also a good idea to always buy or have a back up for everything. Avoiding disasters on the day of an event or even saving the day when things go wrong can really give you brownie points in an internship.
