An Inside Peek at the 2013 Academy Awards

The Oscars, one of Hollywood’s most exclusive events, for the most part has only been accessible for the general public through the television. In recent years the Internet has also provided play by play of the historic night, keeping interested observers up to date with fresh pictures of their favorite celebrities. But for the true fan, nothing is better than having red carpet photos and neat peeks into that glamorous night, delivered directly to their phone. Thankfully for them, social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter have made this dream a reality.

Twitter, one of today’s most popular microblogging websites, jumped on the Oscar train last year. Many famous celebs chose to chronicle their night by means of photos and clever tweets and their fans could not be more ecstatic. These brief, but witty, snippets into the Academy Awards have left the public hungry for more.

If you want to be on top of the game come Oscar night, make sure you are following @SethMcfarlane, host of the shindig. I expect nothing but cleverly ironic and playful banner from this Renaissance man. For those of you more interested in the fabulous clothing more so than the awards themselves, check out @GiulianaRancic, celebrated E! host, who will be manning the red carpet ready to dish on who is hot and who is not. Unfortunately, only four of the nominees have personal Twitter accounts: @OfficialAdele, @HelenHunt, @HughJackman and finally @BenAffleck. Choose to follow one, or follow them all! I am sure they will each have something lovely to say about the show. Finally, follow the official account of the Academy Awards, for any other tidbit of information you might want to know.

Now, social media sites like Instagram are playing host to a variety of actors, red carpet hosts and other members of the Hollywood elite. To take it a step further, the Academy Awards itself has even created a personal Instagram account. No pictures yet, folks. And it remains to be seen who will be handling the photography, but since it is the Academy, we can expect nothing less than the very best.

So cast your ballots ladies and genetleman, put the popcorn in the microwave and have your phone at the ready. The red carpet coverage begins at 4:30pm ET. The show itself starts at  8:30PM ET / 7:30PM CT / 5:30PM PT.

With your social media savvy, my dear reader, I am sure you won’t miss a sparkling moment.
