The main point of the first article is about the different characteristics of an artist and how entrepreneurs can learn from them and basically how the business world is creeping towards art as they realise creativity is just as much a part of business as logistics  and even the sciences. Business itself is a form of art we see so many artists creating businesses out of their art and using their creativity as a cornerstone for their own entrepreneurial journeys.

The second post is making the case for artists being entrepreneurs themselves. Despite their stereotypes of being stark opposites there are many similarities between artists and entrepreneurs. They are each risk takers in their own way they follow their passions with zeal paying little mind to the logistics or calculations when thinking of a big idea though they eventually have to face the realities of the steps and take it one by one. Though they may seem to be yin and yang artists and entrepreneurs ar, in many ways, the same

Artists should learn the skills of having connections and using every resource possible to be able to get their art shared, and out in different circles. Entrepreneurs spend a majority of their time networking and getting their work or projects out there and artists should spend the same amount if not more time. Artists are used to working mainly alone, the stereotype of the “starving artist” is a reality in the art community and this can be combated by having a network of people to help you get the right connections and really thrive in your art.

I think in a way artists are entrepreneurs in the sense that they are in the same business of getting their product seen and making a decent living off of their true passion. Though it is in a far less capitalist way I guess I agree that you could say that artists themselves are entrepreneurs. We do have to do business despite what everyone thinks we aren’t just sitting around smoking weed, dropping acid, and throwing paint at canvases (not that we don’t do that also) but there is serious business involved in art. So in a sense yes artists are entrepreneurs.

I think out of the characteristics of artists listed I most agree with the point that artists are humanists. As an artist my main goal is to get people to feel what I feel without using words. I think a big part of what I do, as a photographer, is capturing that perfect moment where I can provoke a certain emotion of moment  or make someone feel like they are in that moment. I want people to be transported to that exact moment or place or time and just feel. And having that connection to the human experience is a big part of being able to convey it.

The one point I would add is that artists are activists. Rarely do you meet an artist who doesn’t have a passion for a world problem and try to portray that through their art. That’s what art is for after all, its basically shouting but using a pen, or camera, or paint, or in some cases just by shouting. Art is not meant to go with the flow of the main ciulture art in itself is counterculture.

Additional note: Entrepreneur is reeeaalllyyy hard to spell

Part 2:

I would say I have a fair amount of grit but I would say I definitely have more grit when it comes to art. My score was a three on the “grit test” which is 20% more than other Americans. I would say i definitely have to work on that for the sake of academics but when it comes to art I am far more likely to finish an art project than a math problem. The main difference is definitely passion, when you care about what you’re doing and want to make sure it’s the best it can possibly be you work harder on it. It’s not ideal but it’s just what happens.

To increase my grit level I would definitely work on studying harder and making sure that I keep on top of the things I don’t exactly lean towards. Persisting through struggles and challenges is definitely another way to increase grit. Making sure you have a good group of people to keep you accountable on finishing things, especially those things you aren’t necessarily good at or interested in.
