Thanksgiving week reflection

So my idea collapsed… again. On Tuesday, by the time we were on the bus, it was already too dark to shoot, along with the fact that we couldn’t bring Raye’s camera to share it was just a total disaster from a shooting standpoint. This means I’ll be forcing myself to make my emotion-based book work. I decided I’m going to show its sequence better by making it slowly fade into color by increasing saturation by 5% on each photo, going from total black and white to total color. Hopefully this works out.

11/17 Weekend

This weekend I realized my idea was awful. I do not have the skill yet to convey my emotions through art as well as I’d like so I am entirely changing my idea. I will document my trip to Dallas and end on a photo of Thanksgiving dinner. Hopefully this will work better than my current idea.

Blog Post 10

The speakers who came in were a husband and wife working on a 2.5-D turn based fantasy game. They talked about how they got into the industry, how they met, how they found this project they wanted to work on together, and how they brought in a team and how team dynamics work. What I enjoyed the most about their talk was hearing about how their team managed to compromise on issues.

What is the process of trying to get internships and when does it happen?

I do not remember the upperclassmen’s presentations thoroughly enough to write about however I do have a couple websites I have been using for inspiration as I code mine.

Uptown Music Collective

The Collective is like my second home and family from back home. They recently updated their website to a look which I really like so I’ve been using that for general layout inspiration.

Awwwards

Awwards is a site focused on providing inspiration for web design. The thing I like most about this site is that, aside from its own layout, I can use any one of the sites on there for examples on certain things I want to try. (Also they have a great free font selection)

Time Tracker_-1uke71t

From the time tracker (and of course my lack of turning in assignments) I’ve realized I don’t spend enough time on school work. I spend too much time with friends doing whatever they wanted because I have too hard of a time saying no but after speaking with them about my issue they’re going to help me get everything back together hopefully. I’d also like to take this as a chance to thank you for going through my late work, even though I know I will not be getting full credit for it. I have not been the best student and will be trying my hardest to turn this around. Here is some of my work from high school that I’m proud of from my portfolio.

10/20

For each class ask yourself the following:

  1. My greatest strengths in Community in Action include: participating in class and contributing to discussion
  2. For greater success in this course, I need to: be better about the readings for each day in class

Computer skills:

  1. My computer skills include: Photoshop, Illustrator, inDesign, Dreamweaver, Sublime text-editor, Microsoft Office Suite, and building computers
  2. I still need to learn:

Research & writing skills:

  1. My greatest strengths as a researcher/writer include: finding the information
  2. I need to work on these aspects of research and writing: putting my thoughts into words
  3. I learn best & accomplish most when: I work with someone else who writes down what I say

ACTION PLAN

Choose one class that you are struggling with or are not doing as well as you could.
Now make a list of 10 ways you could improve your performance in this class.

Community in Action

Work more outside of class, do the readings, do my homework the day I get it, get help from the professors when I’m confused, have my friends in that class help me out, go to my professors’ office hours, be more alert in class, take better notes,

The goal of this project was to use gestalt to create visual pleasing images within a certain geographical boundary. I achieved this goal by picking my images with strong and clear examples of gestalt.

I think the strongest aspect of this work was my choice to turn it into a dark black and white image. I think the weakest aspect was in the lack of detail where the lights are. Conceptually this would’ve been better to me if there were more cars coming, and technically it would’ve been better if I’d used an actual camera and not just my phone.

Noma Bar

Noma Bar is probably my biggest role model when it comes to design. His use of minimalism and negative space creates designs that I think are far more visually pleasing than most more intricate designs. For example, in his pulp fiction poster, he uses what is essentially two shapes to create an image of two iconic characters connected. Bar’s use of shape, line, color, and space is what makes him unique and gives me a sense of inspiration.

9/25 Photos

For my final set of photos, my focus was the different shapes you could create with the use of the sky as negative space. I took my photos between 7-9 PM as it gave me a good varied amount of photos with different colored skies. As a whole I enjoyed this project as it got me to look at South Congress with a new perspective.
