Hybrid Collages – Visual Studies I
Wow this harmony unit went by in a flash.
For the hybrid collages I tried a couple different directions. There was the polka dot phase, then the Mr. Rogers phase, then the zig-zag line through the sky phase. I wasn’t a huge fan of any of them, frankly, so I went in a really started from scratch and decided to just use black and white, relying only on the shape and texture of the images.
For the faces collage, I used the quick selection tool to select the sticker off a lamp pole, used the quick mask mode to refine the selection, then copy and pasted the face onto a new document. Then I printed the collage and used a heat embossing tool to add a metallic gold finish to the hair of the faces.
For the circles collage, I use Photoshop to create a stripe pattern of different images then printed out the striped pages. Then I cut circles out of the stripes and used rubber cement to adhere them to a piece of paper. Then I used the same heat embossing from the faces collage but with black powder this time. When I went to dust off the powder from the paper so it only remained on where the ink was, it stuck to some left over rubber cement. But I decided that actually looked pretty cool, so I left it instead of brushing it off.
