My current work…

As you know, I am from Chile. My country is very seismic, and we have big earthquakes almost as every 5-10 years -a big one would be over 6.5 in Richter scale, not like Californians’ 5.something, which they think is an earthquake and not just a trembling.

The last earthquake happened in September 16th, 2015. It was an 8.4 in Richter. 10 out of the 15 regions of Chile were affected. One of the most affected was the 4th Region (Region de Coquimbo y La Serena), which was not only affected by the earthquake but also by a tsunami. My family is originally from that region, and for me -even though I was not born there- it is my home. We have a family house in Tongoy, a little fishermen town, and that has been the place were I spent almost all my summers for 3 months, and 15 of my 20 birthdays have been celebrated there. I feel very emotionally connected to this place, and when I knew how affected it was, I couldn’t hold my tears. My family was there (Thanks God nothing happened to them). All my memories, places, paths…all under water… that was the only thing I could think of…

I’ve been working in a series of drawings of the earthquake, tsunami and the “afterwards”, all based on images my family took and images shown by the media in Chile. This are two.
