The title translation to english is called Triumph of the Will. It is a filmed record of the 1934 Nazi Party Convention, in Nuremberg. Personally i think its more than just a record, by the time of filming it is an exultation of Adolf Hitler, who from the moment his plane descends from Valhalla-like clouds is visually characterized as a “God on Earth.”
Leni Riefenstahl a 31-year-old actress and movie director was requested personally by Hitler. She was filming the entire week-long Rally. Utilizing thirty film cameras and 120 technicians, she produced an extraordinary film record of the festivities, featuring many unique camera angles and dramatic lighting effects. There are two scenes or shots that i find them really well done.
The first one is when a clever camera angle used by Riefenstahl in her film makes Hitler appear larger than life on the movie screen.
Then there is one that its consider Riefenstahl most sentimenatl shoot to those who support Hitler ideas. The omnipotent Führer (with Himmler and Lutze) in front of 160,000 Germans arraigned in perfect geometrical formation.
There were many thoughts on the purpose of this film. To the director it was a life time opportunity but she told Hitler that this was the only time she will work for him, in her interview. To the germans it was a positive propaganda. The film demonstrate how many german soldiers are there, how organize they were and the support of the people toward Hitler. However there is no denying the effort, and the technics by Riefenstahl through out the process of filming end editing. She was able to use the sound of the marching band, the clapping of the people to her advantage to make the film more realistic.
