Reading #4

Reading 4  |  Nothing to Lose
1. How is Warhol able to turn in off and based upon the article does he not
care about the work?
Andy Warhol is able to disconnect himself from his work and the aspects of the composition that are perceived as normal. He says that if you don’t think about it, it is right and that as soon as you make an intentional choice, its wrong. It is not that he doesn’t care about his work, it is just that he wants to displace himself from the choices incorporated withe composition.
2. Why is the article relevant to the last project?
The article is relevant to the last project because we had to create a sculpture, but then we hd to informally represent the sculpture through photography. We had to take a step back from the piece and experiment with lighting and angles to where it doesn’t look like the sculpture anymore, and the sculpture no longer matters. The readings deal with the problem of where art begins, design ends and how they overlap and this was important in our last project.
Personal Reflection:
1. Dyou become selfconscious of your ideas?
I personally do not become self-conscious of my ideas, I like to propose them and see what others think about them. I believe ideas are meant to be shared and communication with others stimulates the growth and development of these ideas.
2. What do you think of the nothingtolose attitude?  What are its pros and cons?
I think the nothing-to-lose attitude can be both beneficial and detrimental to your work. This attitude is beneficial when you need to withdraw yourself from the content of the work, and let the process control the outcome. There is a difference between not caring about what happens and removing yourself from complete control of your work for its benefit. It is beneficial to experiment without caring what the outcome is. This attitude becomes detrimental when there is the loss of care for the product.
