Tuan– I liked a lot how Tuan can come up with all of his creative designs whether it’s for packaging, advertising, or posters for family or friends. His designs can either be complex or simple but either way they are very interesting and cool to look at.

Hollis– I liked the quote Hollis used “Memory is a complicated thing a relative to truth, but not it’s twin”. It goes perfectly with her work about memories from when she was younger. She uses references and works them out conceptually. I really liked her natural disaster work that she drew and put together for one big exhibit. I think it’s cool how she can focus on details and have every little thing have detail in it. For the larger ones I liked how she would find random pieces like chairs and tables to incorporate into her pieces.

Bill– I loved all of Bill’s photography works. My absolute favorite was the prison rodeo pictures because I am a fan of rodeo and am very familiar with the prison rodeo in Huntsville since it’s only an hour from my hometown. I also liked all the photos of the wilderness like the mountains and landscapes like that that he took. The pictures of just random objects that were photo-shopped into something completely different were really cool to look at also.

5 Year Plan:

I want to be able to graduate from college with a degree in Photography and a minor in possibly Marketing or Sports Management.

I want to be able to intern for different sports affiliated companies such as ESPN, USA Today sports, or PBR/NFR and see if I can take pictures at different events or learn how everything works.

My main goal is to work for ESPN as a sports photographer taking pictures of college or professional sports. I may want to work for Longhorn Network since it is the closest just to get a start and a hang of things and then move further up in the company or become freelance and sell my pictures to them.

I would like to be able to shoot the summer Olympics, the world cup, the super bowl, and other big events in sports like those that people will always remember.

I possibly want to become a freelance photographer that way I could just go to any event that I wanted and sell my prints.

Later on in life I may want to switch to doing landscape or wildlife photography but my biggest passion is sports photography and I love everything about it.

20151101This was from the collage project in Visual Studies 1, I titled it “Wishful Thinking”. While making this I thought back to my family and friends in Tomball and how much I have missed and miss them. I feel like there is a lot in this picture that represents what coming into a new city knowing no one and starting over is like.

20151026 (2)This is also from the collage project, I wanted to take regular pictures and make them more meaningful than the original image. So for this picture that was once just stairs was turned into blue steps that go well with the foliage green background. I titled this “Blue”.

Lynne Cravens- Lynne does a lot of silk screen printing with her photography and likes to incorporate origami into her pieces. She also took old pictures of her grandparents and of herself when she was young and put them together to make it look like it was taken at the same time. I liked how she took photography and really made it her own by morphing it into the things that she liked. She gave some good advice on whether to go to grad school or not and to defiantly do a photo study abroad.

Miranda Petrosky- Miranda is a graphic designer for a company called Bakery. She does designs for apps, different products, digital and print work, and likes to do screen/shirt printing in her spare time. I liked a lot of Miranda’s work and thought it was really cool and how I am super uncreative when it comes to things like that. She showed us a glimpse into the world of graphic design and how you could either go into advertising agencies or design agencies. All of her things seemed very interesting and cool to go into.

Dustin Meyer- Dustin is a wedding and portrait photographer who has very beautiful lighted and creatively thought of pictures. He made me realize that going to college for  photography isn’t a mistake or waste a money by as much as he learned from it. I liked how he told us that photography is not just photography it is also a business that you have to maintain and how you have to market yourself out to people so they’ll know who you are and how good your work is.

  1. I feel like I mostly related to Rebecca because she is also a photographer and I liked a lot of the things that she had done/ is doing right now.
  2. Taylor surprised me the most because she did so much with an art degree and so many people always say that it’s a waste of time or that you can’t do anything with one but she did so much to get her name out there and overall became successful.
  3. What was the most valuable piece of advice you heard today?
  4. 2 points that Alex and Taylor made: Don’t wait to start a project, just do it and put it out there. If you want to succeed, persevere.

Part 1:

1. The goal of this assignment was to photograph pictures showing Gestalt

2. I think my weakest aspect was not being as creative as I could be.

Part 2:

1. My strongest aspect of these pictures I think is the color because it pops out more.

2. My weakest aspect was probably not being as creative as I could have been.

3. By thinking more outside of the box and outside of the guidelines

4. It could be more conceptual by being a bit more creative with it.

5. Technically I think maybe putting more editing into it but I already put a lot in so any more and it would look way over edited.

6. I really like both of these 2 photos the most though because the colors really pop out and they both clearly show Gestalt principles.

VISU 1311 Project #1 Jessica_Sagstetter

The four photos that I ended up choosing out of my 50 plus photos all surround the containment principle of Gestalt. I feel like containment is often looked over and that not a lot of people realize containment until they truly know what it means. Mostly all of my pictures together by showing similar colors and shapes. These traits help the viewer to understand Gestalt more and easily show how the principle of containment is used in everyday settings. This project helped me understand how to take a deeper look into things and see more than what it looks like when it first appears.

The things I liked most of the art major students was their different works, I liked the “list of 10” it’s a good thing to look into or back on. The things I liked most from the graphic designers was how creative their designs were and how they designed things for different people. I liked how they said to “find your passion” because that helps you get more into detail in what you want to do in the art field. The photographers I liked the most because that is what I am going into. I liked how they said to constantly think of your portfolio and to not be afraid of critiques. I was mostly worried about getting internships, but they insured me that I just have to ask and that most people have them.

www.flickr.com – I will sometimes go and browse other people’s photos and they are very captivating and cool to look at.

www.pinterest.com- I am constantly, everyday on Pinterest because it gives you A LOT of ideas for photo shooting and designs, I have a lot of ideas based from Pinterest.

www.levonbiss.com – He does exactly what I want to do whenever I get out of college and his pictures are really really stunning.

www.everything-everywhere.com- It has a lot of stunning travel photography that makes you want to go and visit wherever the photographer is.

When I first read “The Medium is the Massage” I was very weirded out. A few parts made since to me but for the most part I did not understand it. I think for you to understand this article you had to have had a very open mind to things, a more philosophical view. This was more for people who wanted to see a different view of how people see the world I think than just regular people.

I first started by listening to the track that was provided. This was really really creepy and had really weird noises, and kind of scared me. The clown laugh and baby crying really freaked me out to be honest. The sounds never really made any sense to me and they don’t really go along with the article.

The article was mainly about how everything is changing in the world and how you have to look around you to see the changes. Societies have always been shaped more by nature of the media and communication than anything. We have taught ourselves to put old things in new ways makes good results. Innumerable confusions and a profound feeling of despair invariably emerge in period, of great technological and cultural transitions.

In the end I learned that there are different things that influence art in positive and negative ways. It seems that everything that we’ve created is an extension of ourselves in some way. For example how the wires in a building are like the veins in our body. We need to take a deeper look into things and think more about our lives.

I really liked the photographer Kristy Mitchell’s work. She honors her mother and the stories that she would tell her when she was younger. It is based off a lot of mystery and fantasy and kind of let your imagination run wild. I love how there are a lot of hidden details to them and that you can see them all clearly and vividly. I also love all the flowers and forest aspects to it, it makes all the colors pop out and very eye appealing.
