I believe, as a graphic designer, I have had a few moments where my work was exactly what I intended. I wish I had more moments, but I’m proud of the ones I’ve had, and they seem to be coming much more often as I improve as a designer. Of all of my moments as a designer, these are some I’m the proudest of.

In working on the zine in image methodology I found that I could build a chromatic type face in a few fairly simple maneuvers. My technical skills improved vastly from the beginning to the end of this project. I also would like to think that conceptually I improved as a graphic designer. I had intentions to create an ominous message with a ‘cutesy’ appearance in order to add to the mystery in my truism. Then printing it on black paper allowed me to pull from the darkness of the statement. Overall this project was very successful. It made me confident in my abilities as a designer.

My decision map was also a huge victory for me. I was very passionate about the project itself. I loved the idea of making a flowing map. I love to guide the viewer’s eyes through my design. Most of all I love when their eyes are directed just as intended. I believe this project did that perfectly. I challenged myself to make the map riso-printable. I wanted an extra factor to add to the criteria. By using a two-color palette, I learned to make use of negative space as more than just negative space. I loved the way varying opacities made the icons work. Overall I was very proud of this map.

Finally, my mark I made this semester for Waller creek was something I was very happy with. I was happy about how my mark came together to present the aspects of Waller Creek that I want a viewer to see. I am proud of my ability to make a mark that embodies what I intended. I enjoyed the process of this mark and enjoyed using my mood board and writings to help me come up with the design for my mark.

I feel I have improved as a designer immensely from my first semester at St. Edward’s, but also that I have a long way to go. I hope that eventually I am just as proud of all of my work as I am of these particular projects.
