Reflection on Shelter Project

1.How did your group approach the concept of shelter?  Was it successful? Why?

We decided to create a shelter that gave off the same feeling that you get when you listen to your favorite songs. I would say that we created a shelter that gave off a weird, trippy vibe which wasn’t exactly what we first had in mind, but it worked for us.

2. What was the group budget for the project? Where did you source your materials and how did they cost?

We spent exactly $30 on this project. We had to buy some of our things such as the cups, glitter paint, and the cocking glue but we gathered the rest of our materials from our own collection of craft materials and friends houses. The glitter paint was $8, the cups were $20, and the glue was $2.

3. Was the workload equal? Explain.

I would say that we did divide the work evenly amongst the three of us. We all for the most part had conflicting schedules, so we just went in when ever we each had time to work on it.

4. What was the strength that you added to the group, your weakness?

Well I provided different ideas that we could use in case something didn’t go as plan and I also had some crafting supplies. I guess a weakness would be having a limited schedule.

5. What role did you find you played in the group dynamic?

I helped assemble the sculpture and I also provided transportation to the store when we needed to buy the glue and the glitter paint.

6. What advice would you give to the next group that must complete this project?

I would have to say to expect the unexpected because there’s going to be a lot of limiting factors that you didn’t for see at the beginning of this project, but as long as your flexible with it then it all works out for the best.

Nothing to lose

1. How is Warhol able to turn in “off” and based upon the article does he not care about the work?

I believe that Warhol cared enough to keep creating work throughout his life but based upon the article it seems that he doesn’t have any kind of emotional connection with his work. Not having an emotional connection with his work ties into his philosophy of “It really doesn’t matter” which just simply states that anything could happen and he could care less about it.

2. Why is the article relevant to the last project?

This article relates to the last project because Warhol is detached from the entire world which is how we should be towards our shelter. Since our shelters are an impermanent thing we shouldn’t be trying to build a deep connection with it.

Personal Reflection

 1. Do you become self-conscious of your ideas?

I would have to say that from time to time I do get self-conscious about my ideas, because I’m not entirely sure if everyone else is going to accept them the same way I do, or if they’re just going to completely dismiss and crush them. The last thing anyone needs is to have their ideas trashed by another person.  But I only usually feel self-conscious on ideas that I’m not too sure about.

2. What do you think of the nothing-to-lose attitude? What are it’s pros and cons?

I was actually quite fascinated by his nothing-to-lose attitude because I have a similar mentality for certain things. Like for example I enjoy having and making new friends whom I share common interest with, but if one day they decide not to be my friend I’m not going to argue and try to stop them; I was fine before they came into my life and I’ll be fine without them in my life. Some pros with this kind of attitude is that if something unexpected happens it won’t bother you; you’ll just go along with it. However, having this attitude might you seem cold hearted because you’re completely detached from the world and your emotions.

I guess I could better prepare myself as a maker of aesthetic objects/ideas by keeping in mind all the different questions that an aesthetic must ask him/herself. By keeping these questions in mind I can make better decisions when it comes to creating an object or thinking about creating something. Some things that I do to practice my creative muscle is to sit at home with the radio roaring in the background and allow myself to just freely draw whatever I’m feeling at that specific moment. Another thing would be to sit outside with my sketchbook and draw what I see all around me.

My personal view on the difference between a designer and an artist is that an Artist has more individual freedom with their creations whereas a designer answers to other people and fulfills their goals and ideas. A designer has more things and more people to deal with on a day to day basis;it has more rigid procedures. An artist on the other hand has more of a free will to do what he pleases with his work. I believe that I am an artist more than a designer because I hate creating work for other people or having to answer to other people. When I create something it’s because its my own vision that I’ve conjured and not someone else. I enjoy the personal freedom of being an artist.

The object that I chose was a T-shirt, because it can be manipulated into many things. The results can endless if your imagination is big enough. Out of all of the pictures that I took these 10 were my favorite, because I found them to be a bit humorous. A couple of these pictures triggered old memories that I’ve experienced at some point in my life; some good and some not so good.
