Enzyme Lesson Plan

In this activity, students were learning about enzymes and how they function to carry out many processes in our body. They are also very specific to a substrate and will need specific conditions to function properly. After learning this information in the notes, students applied that knowledge with a hands on activity. In the activity there is an enzyme toothickase (the student’s hand) who’s job is to break up a specific substrate (wooden toothpicks). Students had short time spans in which they were asked to close their eyes and attempt to break the toothpicks using their enzyme. Below are the associated notes, handouts, assessments and lesson plan for the activity.
