Cellular Membrane and Transport

Students explored the effects of osmosis and diffusion with a lab after taking notes and viewing a demonstration. Students worked in groups to see how the mass and circumference of a carrot changed depending on what kind of solution it was placed in over a 48 hour period. The solutions were either hypotonic or hypertonic compared to the carrot, giving the students a measurable example of how cells react to different conditions. The notes, demonstration and lab took two days to complete, along with analysis questions at each step.
