CULF 3331:  Globalization, Ideology, & Education

This course, taught by Kris Sloan,

_MG_1565 copyfocuses on the effects of globalization on and in education. Students will demonstrate knowledge of global processes as they influence and are changing educational contexts in Vina Del Mar (VdM), Chile.  To further students’ on-campus curricular experiences, students will engage in off-campus community service learning experiences in local schools in VdM located near the St. Edward’s University portal campus at the International Studies Abroad offices.

Specifically, students will work with Elementary and Middle School students to develop short films of their daily lived experiences in Chile, titled “Soy de Aqui.”   While students in this course will work with students on cross-cultural communication, SEU students will also be analyzing the ways globalization influences Chilean students’ experiences in schools through knowledge transmission, through educational policies, and through on-going ideological struggles in a post-junta society.
