THIS IS SOURCE

The process for this project originally started with being able to communicate the blending of the two types of thinking: analytical and creative. During the beginning stages, the concepts had a full-color spectrum to illustrate the ability of knowledge to fall at any point. But due to the restriction of only two colors, it had to be expressed differently. This then leads to the target design, where the colors would change between the six bands that were created to symbolize the six departments that the university has currently. Up to this point, the creative juices were drying up and my ability to push the concept further was becoming stagnant. After a long creative dry spell, the best-worst thing happened, the file corrupted. And thanks to the beginner’s mistake of not saving the file in multiple places the majority of the work was gone. Granted it was not a lot because I couldn’t figure out how to move forward with it. The lack of time and resources lead to what is being presented in this blog post. I still utilized the six rings but changed the two colors from blue and yellow to red-orange and teal. The reason for this change is because the root reasoning for the original colors was the most uncreative one: it was the school colors. After changing it I began to mess with the placement of the rings that lead to the icon created above. I pushed the new logo further by changing the sizes and placement. This created a solid design idea that was implemented in the deliverables. The downside to this project was that because of the loss of work as well as the long-stagnant position I was in with the original concept, I did not have enough time to fully flesh out the booklet. However, it was because of the loss of the work that allowed me to create what I did. The ability to work hard and pretty creatively under pressure has created work that I wouldn’t have originally been able to get to due to staring at the same idea for way too long. I have a deep critical understanding of what I would consider a good design that is fairly difficult to put into words because how much of it stems from the unconscious thought process. The “I don’t know if just felt right” is the line that I caught myself stating throughout the project, but upon deeper insight, I would argue that it stems from the visual digestion of seeing good design and wanting to be able to create works that have this “look” of good design. As I move forward from this project I see the task of finding a way to push different ideas when one becomes stagnant. That ability would allow for a faster process that would be beneficial to me as I move towards the real-life design world.

WEATHER REPORT

The goal of the project was to use After Effects to move forty different data points to report the weather. There had to be three latches that transitioned from three different methods of displaying information on the screen. Each latch used a different method of displaying the information: category, time, and hierarchy. I decided to rely on color coding each location to be able to guide the viewer throughout the transitions. The design itself relied on being able to be easily read throughout and give the viewer the visual communication of sophistication and fun, noting the bright color palette.

VISUAL IDENTITY: MARK

The goal of the project was to develop an identity for a certain area, mine being Barton Springs Pool. After multiple site visits, we then had to create a mark that embodied the characteristics of the area.  I developed a mark that took the main attraction of the pool, the water, and made it the forefront of the redesign. I wanted to focus on how the water reflects the pool’s history and how even when things change they can still be recognizable. It is because the water is consistently changing that it can stay the same. This is the same for the area around the Barton Springs Pool.

PROCESS WORK/ RESEARCH

An in-depth research and processing occurred during the first phase of the identity mark creation. The process included multiple visits and documentation of the area’s sounds and details. This created more to work with and ultimately help build the concept for Barton Springs Pool’s visual identity mark.

UX PROCESSING/ ARDUINO

FINAL VIDEO pt1  FINAL VIDEO pt2

Using processing interfaces, we were tasked with creating an interactive movie based on the imaginary band we created. The project combined both artistic and technical skills to create an interactive piece that was connected to the Arduino. The idea was an instrumental duo, under the name HeadStone, who had their song connected to the facial color changes and radial band speed. This project introduced me to a new platform, using UX design presets to rework their code, and the opportunities made with it.

PLOTTER

By using the plotter machine, the goal was to create 12 designs that would be best expressed with this process. Understanding the constraints of the plotter machine I decided on a design that could say a lot in a few strokes. I chose different iterations of faces to create various expressions.
