The “Gold” Standard

I find Andy Goldsworthy to be a major influence in the type of work I want to create and build upon. His use of natural materials tied together with his ability to create balance and flow throughout the shot fascinates me. His art installation titled “Roof” displays his use of natural materials, the historical reference within the stone itself has to be the best quality. I have a deep fascination with the outdoors, figuring out how to use natural materials to create something is something that I personally been trying to get myself to experimenting with. His idea of looking deeper into nature and his creations focusing on building a “window” or hole to allow it. I do my best to dig deeper into creations because of this, not mimic his artistic style but be able to get people to look beyond the surface and really look at the big picture of things as he’s able to do with his work.

This piece, titled “Rowan Leaves and Hole” is the first work of his that I came across. I found myself at awe with the color contrasts and material of choice.

“Autumn Cherry Leaves” is another favorite for his use of color. I’m passionate on working with color, and his ability to create amazing gradients with natural materials is once again a usual goal I try to achieve in my work (the work I have so far anyway).
