VISU-1100 Blog post #3

Ken Sortais Started as an artist by doing graffiti when he was 16 because he had to quit his career as a professional golfer. Many of the subjects of his art are based on cartoons from Disney or Miyazaki because of their graphic nature.
I enjoy Ken Sortais’s work because it blends graphic art with the abstract along with the media of spray paint creating a message that is original and interpretative. Since discovering the work of Ken Sortais, Horfe, and the rest of the crew that they paint with it has impacted my work because it combines all the elements of graffiti, abstract, graphic, and cartoon art work into something that speaks to me and others who look at the graffiti scene, their work in refreshing. In this article Ken Sortais describes part of what has made his work so important to artists like myself when he says “I love the act of painting with my body, and the streets teach you different things to a studio.” From themeanderjournal.com
