AUSTIN—It’s a city for music, art, and especially fashion. Local dwellings like South Congress or as Austinites know it, SOCO, is home to the queer and weird Austin vibe boutiques that tourist have grown to love.

If you drive a little bit further south on SOCO and look to your left you will see a salmon brick wall reading in all caps, St. Edward’s University—this is the home of CABRA magazine: a student run fashion magazine that delivers creativity, fashion, and influences individuality.

CABRA’s second 2016 Spring Issue exemplified the diversity within the St. Edward’s community and the individuality all Hilltoppers show in their day-to-day fashion. With the institutional giving social recognition to the zine, the students have really put it on themselves to create a visually brighter and vibrant social atmosphere on campus and for the zine’s social topics and issues.

Even with only one-year of production and effort, CABRA has surpassed the vision Ysenia Valdez ’16 Editor-in-Chief of CABRA had during her study-abroad experience in Angers, France. In the humble words of Valdez, “I just saw something that wasn’t there.” And from that, she asked fellow peers like Mitch Asanza ’16, to help her create a place where students could to publish their work.

CABRA has brought all majors like Photocommunication, Digital Media & Management, Chemistry, Communication, Business, and English Writing & Rhetoric to name a few, creating Directors of Entertainment and Directors of Style under one idea and continues to look for others to join and participate in what could become a university wide spread zine.

At the beginning of all great things, is when all people who believe in its’ prosperity must become one under its mission so that new Creative Directors or new Editorial Staff can bring CABRA the global perspective under the lens of a local jewel.

With the rhetoric to end and foreshadow from their mission statement CABRA, “leads students to re-shape the status quo while practicing the art of originality. CABRA sees the beauty in being young and not only reflects, but welcomes the constantly changing and diverse minds of its generation.”
