The Shelter Project started in the spring 2015. The students were challenged with conceptualizing and creating a shelter that would need to survive for one entire week and fit all the members of the design/construction group.
Students began the investigation by bringing examples of shelters and presenting them to the class. They then set out on some directed research. The next steps required students to continue with self directed research to culminate with a formal proposed solution. The class voted on the shelters that seemed the most viable and/or interesting. Then students self-selected into their design/construction groups to reframe the task, brainstorm the actuality of the idea and then construct the shelter.
