SEMINAR VISU #9

Part 1

ALEJANDRO URA – GAMING

He explained how this is a big field, and therefore you can make several things out of it. He explained some big events they’ve had at SXSW, since he is working there. There were two interesting things he mentioned: his major was graphic design and he also noted the importance of knowing the audience. Firstly, I knew how graphic design is a big field, but I never imagined someone to be working as a gamer with a GDES major. Also, knowing the audience is something important in several areas. Whether it’s creating a new game, an ad, or even a movie, one must remember who is the audience.

ANTHONY ZUBIA – ART DIRECTOR AND FREELANCE DESIGNER

One of the most interesting things is how he worked for a testicular cancer foundation and got to do amazing things such as designing a race car. He also talked about using the different sites such as Society6 and Skillshare in order to earn more money. This is interesting because I always believe that one must have other sources of income aside from your main job, and these seem like good options. Something key was how jobs now look at your social media when interviewing you. This is exactly why I thought about creating an instagram or vsco in order to post my work (even though it’s very soon).

EDITH VALLE – GRAPHIC DESIGN

Edith Valle worked in the risograph lab and was a camp student. Another important thing was how she used Skillshare to learn how to use the adobe creative suite softwares. She also started by scanning her drawings and coloring them in photoshop. I believe this is a good idea to start creating your drawings digitally. She managed to get a part time job at the City of Austin, which even though many people wouldn’t think it’s a big deal, it’s fun and educational. This is where she gets to create posters and signs about the different animals.

Part 2

  • Graphic Design Intern at YBCA: I would get to create posters, print ads, brochures, and signage. I really like this internships because I would do the things I like the most, and I also like that it’s located in San Francisco. https://www.ybca.org/jobs/graphic-design-intern
  • Digital Media Intern at SXSW: I like this internship because I would get to create video and visual digital content. Also, you have to implement ad campaigns on different media platforms. https://volunteer.sxsw.com/internships/
  • Design Intern at MetaDesign: This one may be a far stretch, but I’ve been learning to speak german for the past 5 years. I like this internship because it’s with a big design firm known worldwide. I think that it would look really good on my resume. https://jobs.metadesign.de/de/berlin/careers/praktikum-design-wm-ab-sofort
