Junior Studio- Catalog

For the catalog, we were each given a designer to create a catalog of their work. I chose Lauren Dickens, who is a local to Austin. She created reimagined album covers for different artists and I wanted to showcase this series of her work. She also uses lines in a lot of her work so I incorporated that into the catalog.

Junior Studio- Invitation

For our first project in junior studio, we were assigned a place and to create an invitation. I decided to create an invitation based on an upcoming event. It was the annual gala and the theme was Spanish. I stuck with the Spanish theme of the gala creating a Mexican dancer for the cover. On their website, they used a rose so I continued with the rose. I decided that this invitation would be mailed to the recipient after they paid their donation online. This invitation would also be used as their ticket to get into the gala.

Interaction Design- AR Experience

For this project, everyone was given an old picture of St. Edward’s campus. I chose an old picture of main building that was taken on the backside of it. I recreated the picture so that when it would overlay the old picture and you could see the differences.

Interaction Design- Website

https://alygorday.wixsite.com/endometriosisbeaware

I have suffered from endometriosis for the last six years. So many people have no idea what it is and how many women are affected by it. It has been overlooked and set aside because because do not believe it is important. I created a website to showcase what endometriosis is. I wanted to inform and spread awareness about the importance of endometriosis and get my story heard.

Graphic Design 3-Book

For the final project in graphic design 3, I created a book in a way. I created a case study file about a series of murders that were committed at laguna gloria. I made all the murders match up with one of the sculptures that exists on their land.

Graphic Design 3-Posters

In graphic design 3, we picked a place to focus on for the whole semester. I chose Laguna Gloria. In my poster series, I wanted to create psychedelic posters for different events at Laguna Gloria.

Conference Book

I created a conference book for the Fulbright conference. We were given multiple files and there was no organization so it was up to me to figure a system to put all the information in.

Advanced Type Wrap up

When first starting a project, I reflect, observe and make. I have to generate research by going over the criteria, goals, definitions, and concepts. To make, I need feedback through conversation to talk about my materials and the directions I am going in. this leads to the evaluation of my research. This is coming up with outlines, prototypes, thumbnails, sketches and etc. Moving on, I have to observe what I have created and explore my research more. I have to see what my issues are and what needs to be changed.

My design process starts with the question, what is the problem? I have to see what needs to be done and what is asked of me. Research is the next step. With clear topic/design brief, now I begin to collect visual resources related to the topic. Once I have done my research, I generate ideas. I use the elements and principles that I have learned to create a dynamic composition that meets all the criteria and I consider layout and typefaces. Now, I need to test out my ideas. I choose my best sketches or ideas and create a more detailed version of it. I refine it and choose my color palette and think about the final piece. I like to write about my decisions to make sure I am following the criteria and so that my designs follow the identity or purpose they are trying to fulfill. After feedback and consulting with peers and clients, I revise my design to give the client the best possible work and what they want. If approved, then I move on to maintaining a good design and always striving to make it better.

I think you wonder how I think about design and I think you worry that I wont get my work down because I am a slow worker. As a professor, you want to make sure your students get the work done so that when it comes to real life design work, you can be the best and meet all the deadlines with substantial work. I am critical about myself. I am critical about how my work comes out and Im not always satisfied with my work. I think that if im not critical on myself then how can I ever improve. I have to push myself and motivate myself to want to be the best and to continue improving everyday no matter what. As an athlete, being critical of myself is a very natural thing. I thrive off being critical of myself and from peers giving me constructive criticism. I think it is a part of life and it can only make you better.

Advanced Typography: Weather Report

The weather report project has made me pay more attention to space, time, colors and especially movement which I consider to be important design principles. Knowing more about after effects allowed me to show the same information in three different variations. The most challenging part of this project was finding a typeface to use. I feel like I need a better process and strategy for picking a typeface. This project challenged me to think about the relationship between motion and meaning. I think understanding this relationship helped me communicate what needed to be communicated.
